About Kurv

At Kurv, we believe that thoughtfully designed spaces can shape the way people live.

We design and create beautifully crafted architectural joinery attuned to each individual, and the way they want to live. Every piece comes together to tell a story, and we take great pride in helping people interact with their home with a sense of flow.

The Kurv Story

Owner and director Chris James started Cocina Joinery from the garage of his home in Melbourne.

Early opportunities with some of Melbourne’s leading architects and builders saw the business quickly grow.

 

Now with a dedicated team and manufacturing from their Bayswater site (workshop and warehouse) Chris felt a change in name and branding was needed. A brand that better suited their young, modern, vibrant profile but still keeping true to Chris’ core business values, Quality, Reliability and Honesty.

Who we work with

Along with discerning home owners looking to update their living spaces, we work with architects, builders and interior designers to create seamlessly integrated designs that help transform their projects into beautifully finished homes.

What we’re like to work with

All of us at Kurv believe that the only way to deliver a finished project that’s attuned to the space, and the people living in it, is to work together closely and collaboratively. We’ll bring our deep experience in solving design challenges and blend it with individual requirements and aspirations.  We’re not your typical tradesperson; we’re designers and craftsmen.

 

We take pride in crafting elements that may never be seen, but add to the quality and function of what people will be using every day. For us, a project is not just about collaborating, designing and installing – it’s also the small details and sensitivity to people’s homes that is deeply embedded in how we work. When we enter a home, we’re careful not to disrupt or damage anything in our path, and will meticulously clean up before we leave.

Our Process

A typical project starts with a design meeting with Chris, our client and their architect or builder.  We can meet on site or in our Bayswater office. The meeting will cover key elements, including design issues or alterations, confirmation of finishes, colour & hardware plus discussion of  timelines.

 

Next Chris will complete a check measure. From there shop drawings are constructed for architects/clients approval.  Once signed off, it is onto the construction stage where our skilled tradesman work their magic.

Communication is key to successfully completing any project.  Throughtout every stage of the project Chris is involved and available to answer questions and provide updates.

 

As much we want to get things 100% right all of the time, in reality, problems sometimes occur, and at times it’s out of our control (i.e availability of materials and hardware). If we forsee disruptions to the process, we will immediately  notify you and we’ll do our best to rework our schedule to minimise the impact on your project deadlines.  We are committed to your project.

Detailed joinery has always been a passion for Chris.  You will also see that passion instilled in our ever expanding Kurv team.

We’re proud of the team, which is sized so that we’re attuned to executing intricate details with a strong personal service as well having the capacity to easily complete full house and multiple dwelling projects. Over the past 16 years, Chris has worked with all types of clients, from small companies to managing large scale commercial projects.
